Name the covered systems
List AI applications, agents, copilots, providers and important integrations. Identify data and platform owners and state what is excluded. Generic “AI coverage” is not a usable operating boundary.
Agree mobilisation and capacity
Specify who can activate support, contact channels, coverage hours and response expectations. Confirm reserved capacity where relevant, fees and dependencies. A requested service level is not a contractual commitment until accepted.
Prepare evidence and access
Review available traces, provider retention and secure transfer arrangements. Establish named access and approval processes before an event. Document what cannot be accessed and how provider support will be involved.
Exercise the handoff
Walk through a representative incident from detection to containment approval and recovery acceptance. Check whether the relevant people can make decisions and access the records. Use the exercise to correct gaps rather than to claim that every future incident will be handled the same way.
Ask what happens at each handoff
Test the activation process with a hypothetical event. Who receives the request, who confirms entitlement, who starts technical work and who can approve containment? Ask what happens if the primary contact is unavailable or the incident involves a provider outside the agreed scope.
Write down whether the response milestone means acknowledgement, scoping or mobilisation. Confirm how reserved capacity, readiness activities and additional investigation work are charged. An exercise can expose practical gaps before a contract is relied on during an incident.
Use our provider selection checklist to turn these questions into an agreed scope.
